PART 1- FORM OF IELTS SPEAKING TEST

 

Many people think that IELTS Speaking test is the hardest in all of the skills because the candidates must have face-to-face communication. Moreover, they don’t have much time to make a plan for their answers while the examiners ask the candidates to speak fluently, use effective vocabulary, avoid the wrong grammar or structures, and make good pronunciation. Therefore, you should study the format and study how to get high score of this test.

 

FORM OF IELTS SPEAKING TEST

In this test, you must be examined 3 parts.

Part 1: You must respond to questions relating to your daily activities such as family, holidays and vacations, friends, health, work, travel, tourism, free time, technology, etc. This will last about 4-5 minutes.

For example: Topic WORK

  1. What is your job?
  2. Why did you choose this job?
  3. How do you do to get on well with your coworkers?

Be careful with the kinds of questions and key words in the questions. These information helps you to think about the response effectively.

Some suggestions for this topic:

  1. I’m currently a teacher of a university in this city.
  2. I choose this job because I want to meet students and share my knowledge to them. Although I can’t get higher salary than others, I feel happy with my students.
  3. We usually make discussion of our teaching methods, give ideas of helping our students overcome difficulties in their studying and drink coffee to joke. Sometimes, we go on picnic or go camping to spend time together.

Part 2: You will be given a card with a topic given. It takes 1 minute to prepare the answer and 2 minutes to respond the question. To do this part, you must use the card, paper and pen. You will start your speaking when the examiner asks you to speak. Try to talk as long as you can. The topics in this part are something happened in your life.

For example:

            Describe a book you have recently read.

            Describe a piece of art you like

            Describe a piece of advice you have recently received

Part 3: You will give your ideas or discussion of an issue given by the examiner. It takes 4-5 minutes in this part.

Example:           Is family important in your country?

                        What kinds of jobs do young people not want to do in your country?

                        Is higher education too expensive in your country?
